As part of the World Breastfeeding Week 2025 celebrations, the Department of Paediatrics,
Indira Medical College & Hospital conducted a breastfeeding awareness programme highlighting the
WABA theme for this year “Prioritise Breastfeeding – Create sustainable support systems”. The
programme was headed by Medical Director Prof. Dr. Shantimalar and Vice Principal Prof. Dr.
Brindha Venkatraman. Programme included a skit performance by Final Year MBBS Students of
IMCH to highlight the need for creating sustainable support systems and breastfeeding techniques.
More than 75 attendees actively participated in the program, making it a truly impactful and
community-driven event.

Indira Medical College and Hospitals observed Anti-Ragging Week 2025
from 12th August to 18th August 2025 with great enthusiasm and a
strong commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning
environment for all students. The program was organized in line with the
directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to spread
awareness about the ill effects of ragging and to ensure a campus culture
built on respect, dignity, and camaraderie.
The week-long activities commenced with an inaugural session on
National Anti-Ragging Day, 12th August 2025. To celebrate the theme,
various events were organized for the M.B.B.S. students.
On 12th August, the day began with the inauguration event. Dr.
Vasanthamani P., Dean of IMCH, Dr. Brindha V., Vice Principal of
IMCH, and senior faculty members addressed the gathering, reiterating
the institution’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. They emphasized
the importance of compassion, mutual respect, and teamwork as the
cornerstones of the medical profession.
At the inaugural event, students took a pledge reaffirming their
commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus.
Exciting competitions like Poster Making, Logo Creation, and Slogan
Writing were organized on themes of student unity, empathy, and healthy
peer bonding, showcasing the creativity of students in spreading positive
messages.
After the completion of the events, an Anti-Ragging Rally, along with a
Street Play Activity performed by students, was conducted in the IMCH
campus. The street play depicted real-life scenarios to create awareness
about the harmful impact of ragging and the importance of reporting
incidents.
On 13th August, an Essay Writing Competition (in Tamil and English)
was conducted on the topic – "From Intimidation to Inspiration: How Do
Seniors Shape Juniors?"
On 14th August, a Debate Competition was held on the topic –
"Breaking the Ice vs. Breaking a Life: The Truth About Ragging."
On 15th August, Anti-Ragging Posters and Banners were affixed at key
locations throughout the institution to raise awareness.
On 18th August, the Valedictory Function was held to recognize the
participants and reward the winners of the various events organized
throughout the week.
The celebrations not only served to sensitize new students about their
rights and safeguards but also encouraged senior students to act as
mentors and role models. The Anti-Ragging Committee and student
volunteers played an active role in coordinating the activities throughout
the week.
The initiative reaffirmed the institution’s vision of nurturing medical
professionals who uphold values of empathy, inclusivity, and
responsibility, while ensuring that the campus of Indira Medical College
and Hospitals remains a safe learning space for all.
A Historic Milestone for Our Institution. . .
We are proud to share that Thiru.S.Jeyaprakash, a final-year MBBS student of Indira Medical College & Hospitals, Tiruvallur, has brought great honor to our institution by being selected as the Indian Representative to the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA) Medical Student Forum for the current tenure.
Mr. Jeyaprakash has been actively involved in medical student leadership through the Indian Medical Association – Medical Students Network (IMA-MSN) since his first year. His consistent dedication over the past four years has now resulted in this extraordinary international recognition.
With this achievement, Indira Medical College & Hospitals becomes one of the few institutions in India to have a student representing the nation at such a high-level global medical forum. Notably, Mr. Jeyaprakash is one of only five Indian students to be selected for this prestigious forum since the Commonwealth Medical Association’s establishment in 1962.
As part of this honor, Mr. Jeyaprakash was formally invited to attend the CMA Convocation 2025, held at Melbourne House, London, United Kingdom, where he received his CMA Medical Student Membership. He was the only medical student from India to attend this convocation, where he joined senior medical professionals and health leaders from across 56 Commonwealth nations.
This momentous achievement is a true reflection of the excellence in medical education and leadership training fostered at Indira Medical College & Hospitals. It also stands as a strong example of how our students are being prepared to take on leadership roles not only in India but across the world.

The Department of Paediatrics at Indira Medical College and Hospital successfully
organized the ORS Week Celebration from July 25th to July 31st, 2025.

The initiative aimed to create awareness about the importance of Oral Rehydration Solution
(ORS) in preventing and managing dehydration, particularly in children.
The week-long celebration began with an inaugural function held at the hospital reception
area. As part of the event:
• Final year MBBS students performed a skit to educate the public on the role of
ORS in managing diarrhoea and dehydration.
• A live demonstration was conducted to highlight the six steps of effective
hand washing, promoting hygiene practices.
• A practical demo on ORS preparation was showcased to ensure correct usage
by caregivers and parents.
• Awareness posters prepared by students were displayed throughout the
hospital to engage and inform the public.
• An educational video on ORS and dehydration management was continuously
screened at the hospital reception.
• Pamphlets in Tamil were distributed to help spread awareness among the local
population.
A dedicated ORS Awareness Booth was set up in the Paediatric OPD for the entire week,
where ORS solution kits containing ORS sachets and Zinc syrup were distributed to all
paediatric OPD patients.
The Department of Paediatrics is proud to have conducted this impactful event, reaffirming
our commitment to preventive child health and community education.
INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY CELEBRATION REPORT

The International Yoga Day program was organized at Indira Medical College on 21st June 2025 to commemorate yoga’s universal relevance as a tool for well-being, peace, and unity. The event emphasized not only the practice of physical postures (Asanas), but also breath control techniques (Pranayama), meditation (Dhyana), and principles of ethical living.
This year’s theme was “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, highlighting yoga’s role in promoting holistic health for individuals and harmony with nature.
The program began with an introductory speech on the importance of yoga delivered by Dr. Brinda Venkatraman, Vice Principal of Indira Medical College. This was followed by a yoga session led by Yoga Master V. Krishnamurthy, during which approximately 50 students participated with great enthusiasm.
Yoga Master V. Krishnamurthy also delivered an insightful talk on the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of regular yoga practice.
Department of Dermatology Conducted World vitiligo day on June 25, 2025, by 11.00 AM in IMCH hospital block, ground floor. Theme – Awareness, acceptance and impact of treatment in transforming lives of vitiligo patients and their care-givers. About 100 members including general public, faculties and students attended the programme. The program was graced by IMCH Dean, Dr.P. Vasanthamani and Dr. R. Shanthimalar, Medical Director. Followed by a short welcome note by the department head, Dr. Ramya C., final year and third year students enacted their role play. 3rd year students concentrated on giving awareness to the public about vitiligo and to end the stigma. Final year students, through their role play Conveyed the treatment options for vitiligo. Our beloved Dean madam created awareness is to the audience on how vitiligo is not communicable, to end the stigma and about various treatment options offered by our instituition. Certificates for drawing and poster competitions were issued by our Dean and Medical Director Madam to the participants. Program got ended by a heartfelt vote of thanks.
The Departments of Physiology and Respiratory Medicine at Indira Medical College and
Hospitals (IMCH) jointly organized an enriching Continuing Medical Education (CME) program
titled “Rest, Relax, Recharge – The Sleep Science” on June 4, 2025, at the IMCH First Floor
Auditorium.
The Department of Physiology successfully organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME)
program titled “Body Fluid Homeostasis – The Secret of Body Fluid Balance” on December 4th,
2024, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Hospital Block Auditorium, Indira Medical College and
Hospitals, Pandur, Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.
The Department of Psychiatry, under the leadership of Professor Dr. Ajay Thangaraj, conducted an impactful awareness event on June 6, 2025, at the OPD premises to educate the public on the harms of tobacco.

Doctors from IMCH successfully conducted a medical awareness camp on Personal Hygiene at Government Higher Secondary School, Vidayur Village. The camp was held on March 5, 2022. Dental as well as general health check-ups were also conducted for students and staff.
Our 2nd year MBBS students Sharon Swetha and Nelson competed in the Undergraduate Psychiatry quiz conducted by TANPSYCON. Our students got selected in prelims exam which included pre final and final year mbbs candidates participating all over tamilnadu and Pondicherry. Out of 6 teams selected through prelims our college students were the youngest and they competed against final year mbbs students. Through hard work and training by our faculties, they won the undergraduate quiz competition successfully. They are now participating in the National level undergraduate psychiatry quiz representing the whole south zone.
Indira Medical College and Hospital conducted Fresher’s Day program to welcome the second batch of MBBS students. The day was packed with memorable moments, spearheaded by managing director Indira Rajendran. The students felt keen anticipation as they looked forward to taking their first step into the illustrious medical field.
The reputable doctors and hard-working nurses of Indira Medical College & Hospitals conducted a health camp recently on Jan 11, 2022. It doubled as an awareness camp to educate people on personal hygiene. The camp took place at Thiruvalangadu Village near Thiruvallur. General health checkups were also conducted on site.
