Anatomy

The Department of Anatomy at IMCH offers a rigorous education for students, a course of medicine that combines instruction and practical cadaveric dissection across various branches, including Gross Anatomy, Histology, Osteology, Radiology, Embryology, and Genetics. Dissection remains the main method of study for identifying anatomical structures, which will be immensely beneficial for students. Students can choose their career paths in healthcare, research, education, and allied sciences, ranging from medical practice to laboratory and teaching roles.

Physiology

Physiology is a branch of basic medical science that describes the nature and functioning of human life. It provides a framework for studying the basis of human life by understanding normal functions, mechanisms, and their interactions, which work within an organ system. The goal of our department is to provide evidence-based, comprehensive knowledge of medical physiology to the students for a better understanding of the basics of health and disease. A physiology degree opens doors to healthcare, research, academia, biotechnology, and wellness sectors.

Bio chemistry

The Department of Biochemistry offers a comprehensive course of study in areas of the chemistry of biomolecules, metabolism, molecular genetics, nutrition, and clinical biochemistry. Dealing with the chemical processes within living organisms, students will learn about the structures, functions, and interactions of biological macromolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids, which provide the structure of cells and perform many of the functions associated with life. This course is appropriate for students interested in the delivery of healthcare services.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the science connected with all aspects of the action of drugs and other chemicals on living systems. Its primary aim is to discover chemical mechanisms by which cellular and molecular functions are regulated to understand how existing drugs act and to develop new drugs for the treatment and diagnosis of human diseases. Students can start their careers as hospital pharmacists, Pharmacologists, Clinical Research Associates (CRAs), Drug Safety Associates, and in many other positions in manufacturing companies.

Pathology

Pathology involves the study and diagnosis of diseases through examining surgically extracted organs, tissues (biopsy samples), bodily fluids, or the whole body (autopsy). Further, this course includes the related scientific study of disease processes whereby the causes, mechanisms and extent of diseases are examined. Pathologists also utilise genetic studies and gene markers to assess various diseases, and students can specialise in branches like Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, and Molecular Pathology. It offers diverse career paths in medicine, research, and diagnostics.

Microbiology

Microbiology is an interdisciplinary subject with its foundation in Medicine, General microbiology, Systemic Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Parasitology, Clinical Microbiology, and Molecular Microbiology. It is the study of various types of microorganisms, which can be unicellular (single-celled), multicellular, or acellular (lacking cells). Students can start their careers as Clinical Microbiologists, Research Scientists / Principal Investigator, Laboratory Technician, Biotechnologist, Food Microbiologist / Food Scientist, Quality Control Analyst, Biosafety Officer, and many other positions.

Forensic Medicine

Forensic medicine is a specialised branch of forensic science that applies medical knowledge to legal investigations. A specialised course that addresses the application of medical knowledge in criminal investigations and law procedures. Forensic experts handle crime scene investigations, post-mortem work, and gather evidence in medicolegal cases. There are job opportunities for the graduates to join as crime scene investigators, trace evidence analysts, forensic pathologists, medical examiners, coroners, and toxicologists. This course is suitable for students who have deep knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

Community Medicine

The Community Medicine / Preventive and Social Medicine department focused on the health of populations, emphasising disease prevention, health promotion, and public health interventions. This will further include learning about health promotion, health education and health protection. The department has an established Rural Health Training Centre and an Urban Health Training Centre, which will give the students a lucrative opportunity to treat common health problems through the application of preventive, curative, promotive, restorative and rehabilitative measures.

General Medicine

General Medicine focuses on the care of adult patients, emphasising the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of adult diseases. It is a post-graduate course designed to provide an in-depth understanding of preventing, diagnosing, and managing illnesses in adults. The job opportunities for these medical graduates are widely open in both the government and public sectors. Plenty of jobs are available for graduates in health centres, hospitals, Laboratories, and research centres. Many graduates also plan to open their own private practice.

General Surgery

The Department of Surgery at IMCH has been established to provide the best-in-class, patient-centric care around the clock, year-round. Pediatrics

The department of paediatrics takes optimal care of child patients, either referred for acute care or for some kind of major ailments. We have advanced techniques to treat children and offer them the best possible health care services. Our Paediatrics department has been established to provide the most compassionate and top-quality care to children and adolescents, perform clinical and laboratory research to advance our comprehension of diseases that affect them, while educating our students to become the pioneers of the upcoming generations of paediatricians.

TB & Chest

The department of TB and Chest Diseases at IMCH, the Pulmonology department, specialises in making the students competent in diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases related to the heart and lungs, including asthma, COPD, sleep disorders, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis (interstitial lung diseases), chest infections, bronchiectasis, smoking cessation and pulmonary hypertension. This course is not only good for students but also for practising Pulmonologists to update with the latest recommendations of various respiratory diseases.

Dermatology

The department of Dermatology offers robust education and services for those in need of medical attention about conditions and skin, mucous membranes, hair and nails. Many skin problems are related to other medical conditions, such as cancer and celiac disease. Students are taught to navigate and network with other specialists to provide the apt diagnosis, and can become either dermatologists or dermatopathologists, according to their areas of interest. Our Dermatology department focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing skin, hair, and nail conditions, including both medical and cosmetic care.

Psychiatry

Mental well-being is the most important aspect of a person’s overall health. The course is designed for understanding, preventing, and treating mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders of patients of all age groups. While each curriculum is crafted to support specific educational objectives for students, they can opt for multiple specialisations, including behavioural science, cognitive, affective and behavioural neuroscience, psychopathology, social context of mental health and illness, and neurobiology (understanding the brain). Orthopaedics

The department of Orthopaedics at IMCH focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing conditions of the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and spine, including trauma, degenerative diseases, congenital disorders, infections, and sports injuries. Undergraduate and postgraduate Orthopaedics courses offered by IMCH will provide students to study detailed anatomy, surgical and non-surgical treatment methods. Plenty of jobs are available for graduates in the health care and educational sectors. Many graduates also plan to open their own private practice.

ENT

Also known as the department of Otolaryngology, the department of ENT at IMCH strives to deliver the highest standards of healthcare to patients. The patrons of the department are experts in the field and are equipped to impart varied services and treatments to the diseases of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck. The course of study will expose the students to real-time patient care and introduces them to various medical and surgical therapies meant to prevent diseases, allergies, neoplasms, deformities and disorders of the ears, nose, sinuses, throat, respiratory and upper alimentary systems.

Ophthalmology

Offering a myriad range of medical and surgical eye care for the protection, safeguarding, enhancement and restoration of vision, the department of Ophthalmology at IMCH is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and faculty. The course of study will include an extended study of general eye-related issues such as Cataract, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. In the IMCH, our ophthalmology students will cover all topics related to the eye, including structure, function, diseases and treatment of eye ailments.

Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Gynaecology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions affecting the female reproductive system. Obstetrics is the medical speciality focused on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. The department is a state-of-the-art multi-speciality department that prides itself on providing high-quality patient care in antenatal care, postnatal welfare, infertility treatments, oncology and urogynaecology. Students will be exposed to excellent clinical services in practice, along with a dedicated academic curriculum and advancing research activities.
