A field of applied biology and chemistry, this course is appropriate for students interested in the delivery of healthcare services.
04
Pharmacology is the science connected with all aspects of the action of drugs and other chemicals on living systems. Its primary aim is to discover chemical mechanisms by which cellular and molecular functions are regulated to understand how existing drugs act and to develop new drugs for treatment and diagnosis of human diseases. The discipline of pharmacology explores biology through the actions of drugs and chemical substances. Students can chart out their careers in basic research and teaching in academia, in conducting innovative research in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry or for government laboratories, and in ensuring the safety of drugs and chemicals working with government agencies.
05
Pathology involves the study and diagnosis of diseases through examining surgically extracted organs, tissues (biopsy samples), bodily fluids, or the whole body (autopsy). Further, the course also includes the related scientific study of disease processes whereby the causes, mechanisms and extent of diseases are examined. Pathologists also utilise genetic studies and gene markers to assess various diseases, and students can specialise in branches like Surgical pathology, Cytopathology, and Molecular Pathology.
06
Microbiology is an interdisciplinary subject with its foundation in Medicine, General microbiology, Systemic Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Parasitology, Clinical Microbiology, and Molecular Microbiology.
