Anaesthesia is a highly specialised branch of medicine. It deals with Operative Anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, Critical Care and Pain Medicine. Our department at IMCH is running 11 state-of-the-art major operating theatres, catering for all surgical specialities, including General Surgery (including laparoscopic surgery), Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Oro-Facial-Maxillary, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Urology, Gynaecological and Obstetrical surgery. All our OTs are well equipped with advanced gadgets, and we also provide NORA [non-operative room anaesthesia services], including MRI SUITE.

We have a post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU)  with ventilators and 10 beds providing postoperative care. We run our anaesthesia OPD clinic for pre-anaesthetic check-up on all working days. We also run a fully functional pain clinic providing pain relief to patients suffering from chronic intractable pain. Besides that, we are committed to giving 24×7 acute pain services to all post-operative patients, including a painless labour facility for normal deliveries (labor analgesia).

Our department is having full faculty strength and a competent team of technical and nursing staff to provide the best anaesthesia services and patient care to operative patients. Besides this, we maintain our academic level by doing regular seminars, group discussions, case-based discussions, case presentations, guest lectures, and research activities in the institution.
